EDB 11 Bourgogne/Nivernais
Description
Burgundy Canal Yonne and Canal du Nivernais.
This inland guide describes the entire navigable section of the Yonne River.
Although the Yonne carries more water than the Seine at the level of Montereau outside the short flood season it is a calm and easily navigable river with a good draught. Interesting stops on your journey include the towns of Sens Villeneuve Joigny and Auxerre on the banks of the river.
Although the canal is quite narrow in places it is definitely a good alternative for boats heading towards the Mediterranean.
The Canal du Nivernais forms the link between the Yonne and the Loire.
With its hilly and typically Burgundian landscape the Burgundy Canal is another highlight and Frances real cradle of leisure boating. Although it has suffered a little from lack of maintenance in recent years and only has a limited water depth in the middle section despite all this it offers leisure boaters a beautiful itinerary.
