EDB 16 L'Estuaire de La Gironde
Gironde Garonne Canal de Garonne Dordogne Isle
Although the title of this waterway guide is "Estuaire de la Gironde" it also covers the Garonne the Dordogne and the Isle.
Ships that want to reach the Mediterranean from Great Britain inevitably have to sail via the Gironde and the Garonne. Pouillac and Bègles as well as the new port in Le Verdon offer themselves as mooring points. Bordeaux has also undergone some changes to better accommodate ships passing through.
In addition to the larger ports this inland guide also presents all the small fishing ports on the banks of the Gironde. It should be noted however that some of these ports can only be approached at high water.
The Dordogne is only navigable without problems as far as Branne with plenty of caution also as far as Castillon-la-Bataille. After that navigation may well be fraught with difficulties especially in the summer months.
The Isle is navigable as far as Coutras. Should more recreational boaters decide to sail up to the lock of Laubardemont in the future this lock and the two following ones will probably also be opened for recreational navigation at some point.
