The ADMIRALTY List of Radio Signals are comprehensive reference works on all areas of maritime communications. The operational purpose of Volume 5 is to provide information on the following topics:

  • Global Maritime Safety and Distress System (GMDSS)
    • Worldwide communication requirements for participation in GMDSS
    • Global Maritime Safety and Distress System
  • SOLAS Regulations
  • Excerpts from ITU Regulations
  • NAVTEX and Maritime Safety Information

Shipmasters and captains as well as watch and bridge crews are given all the background information they need to set up the worldwide radio distress call network in this Standard work of safety equipment. The rules and regulations for setting up SOLAS compliant communication equipment on board as well as the system requirements for this are explained in detail.

NP285 contains a worldwide list of all emergency radio stations (MRCC coastal radio stations etc.) that are responsive for the respective countries sea areas or coastal sections. This concerns among others the radio services VHF border wave short wave SSB Inmarsat NAVTEX.
