NV App Boatview Delete user account

Wie kann ich mein Benutzer-Konto löschen.

Solution

To delete your user account and all data stored in it, you must first log in to the installed version of the NV Chart App or the NV Charts Web App with the user account to be deleted.
Then go to Menu > Profile under "Delete user account" and enter your password again for confirmation.

You are now in the process of permanently deleting your account and all data stored with it. All card licences stored on your account will lose their validity as a result. Digital-only subscriptions will also lose their validity because the link will be deleted. However, subscriptions must also be additionally cancelled with the provider. (More information about this topicis available here: https://eu.nvcharts.com/digital-charts/nv-charts-app/?faqdetail=18)

It may take a few days before all data is no longer available.

If you only want to delete individual data or if you have a question, simply send us a short email to nvcharts.com">support@nvcharts.com or using the feedback function of the app or give us a call at +49 4351 46987 70  instead. We can certainly help you with this.

After you have clicked on "Delete user account", we will send you an e-mail in which you must confirm the deletion request. In this way, we try to protect the function from misuse.

NV App AIS Wlan / Wifi connection problems

Problem

Why won't my NV Charts App connect to the AIS router or display AIS data?

Solution

To display AIS data in the NV Charts App, your app must be connected to a Wi-Fi enabled AIS device. Note: Position data obtained via the internet only includes live positions of other NV Charts App users and does not include real AIS targets.

If your NV Charts App is already connected to a Wi-Fi AIS but still cannot connect, check the following:

Check Wi-Fi Connection:

Ensure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the AIS router.

Confirm that your device connects automatically to this network in your tablet or smartphone's Wi-Fi settings.

Check App Settings:

Open the NV Charts App and navigate to:

Settings > GPS and AIS

Verify the IP address, port, and optionally the UDP port are correctly entered. The UDP port only needs to be entered if this connection type is selected and supported by your AIS device.

Ensure the dropdown menu is set from "NMEA off" to the correct connection type (TCP or UDP).

Select one of the two available options under "Select Connection" and then press the Connect button at the bottom.

AIS Device Settings:

Some devices, such as Seanexx AIS, use UDP by default instead of TCP. Check and adjust this setting in your AIS device's system settings, or use the correct UDP port for your device.

Check Permissions:

Some devices may restrict the NV Charts App’s access to the local network:

Go to your device’s Operating System Settings.

Choose Permissions > Apps > NV Charts App.

Ensure location permissions are enabled.

After completing these steps, restart the NV Charts App and verify if the connection is successfully established.

Android version as APK file

Problem

There is no Google Play on the device, so I would like to install the APK directly.

Solution

The APK file is also available for download. However, many devices have different technical specifications and the hardware may not be compatible with the NV Charts app. Therefore, we do not recommend this type of installation and it is not technically supported by us. Also there the Android system will not automatically check for available updates for the NV Charts App. You would therefore need to regularly check this website for new version available.
Currently the latest Version is: 2.674.x

NV App App is restarting / Vector charts are not displayed / free memory / close apps / auto-routing crashes

Was kann ich machen wenn die Vektorkarten nicht angezeigt werden? Was kann ich machen wenn die App meldet, dass nicht ausreichend Arbeitsspeicher verfügbar ist?

Problem

If there is not enough memory available on the device, this can lead to various problems in the NV Charts app. For example, the app may have to restart more often or the map display may not load the maps and only a grey background is visible. Or the vector charts are not displayed and in the upper right corner you can see a message indicating insufficient memory.
Or the auto-routing crashes when creating (longer) routes.

Solution

It may be possible that too many apps are open simultaneously on the device and therefore there is insufficient available memory. Try using the Task Manager (swipe up from the bottom of the screen / double-press the home button / use the button next to the home button on Android) to completely close all apps and, if the problem still persists, restart the device.

Now, open only the NV Charts App, which will have more memory available.

Make sure that the device meets the hardware requirements and has at least 4 GB (without vector charts and with limited functionality) for the full functionality.

It may also be the case that an older version of the base map is still loaded on the device. Updating to a new version can help. Go to NV Charts App Settings > Data Management and update the base map (reinstalling the app also updates the base map).

The Battery Optimization can also play a role, particularly on Android devices. Android's operating system applies battery optimizations, which can result in a significant slowdown in the display of the NV Charts App. Therefore, disable the optimization for the NV Charts App in the system settings.

Go to Android Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization > Show all apps > disable the optimization for the NV Charts App.

In addition, the following steps can help:

If the device has 4 GB RAM, the vector charts may not have been automatically disabled. Therefore, try disabling the resource-intensive vector display in the map settings. Go to Settings > Map Settings and enable the top switch for Vector Maps. If the switch is not displayed, it means that the app did not recognize sufficient available memory during startup and disabled the function.
Check if there is sufficient disk space of approximately 2 GB available on the device. Remove any other apps, videos, or pictures if necessary to free up storage space.
Also, try not to have too many map regions loaded on the device simultaneously. Only download the currently needed regions (~1-2 regions) and remove other regions from the device. The regions can always be downloaded again when needed.
Ensure that the device does not get too hot. This can happen if it is placed on a magnetic charging dock, charged with a high current, or exposed to direct sunlight, especially if it is in a case.
Make sure that the device is not in power-saving mode and has at least 10% battery remaining. Try fully charging your device to ensure that all power-saving features of the operating system are disabled.
On iOS devices, the battery status should be listed as "peak performance capability" in Settings > Battery > Battery Health and Charging.
In the app, there are settings for "Smooth Scrolling," "Reduce Resolution," and "Auto-routing" under Boat and App. Disable these settings to consume fewer resources.
Satellite imagery, currents, and wind typically do not consume additional resources except for requiring an internet connection but may have some impact on performance if storage space is limited, especially with frequent switching.
Long tracks with narrow point intervals can also consume additional resources. It is recommended to stop tracks at the end of the day and keep the interval at the default values (marked with *) in Settings > Boat and App > Course Line > Time Interval and Distance Interval.

If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to us via email or phone so we can better understand how we can assist you.

NV App Auto-Routing improvements

Problem

Have you noticed any potential for improving the auto-routing function at a certain location?

Solution

Please send us a message if something is not working properly on the auto route. Maybe we can improve something there.
Also check the ship settings again, if this could be related to this.
When creating routes directly to a port or Point of Interest (POI), it may be that a part of the route is over land, especially at the beginning or end of the route, or that it is not possible with the ship settings. Either because you are still on land, or the POI is on land, or because the harbour itself is too shallow for the ship data.
But in any case a hint to the route will help if we can improve anything here. Send us the set values and the Route Share Link (Go to the detail view of the route and click on the Share Icon and copy the link that is used to share the route into a feedback message to us. Alternatively you can send us a screenshot of the route, then we know approximately where to look.

We have also created a tutorial with english captions on the topic of routes.

Solution

Yes, the nv.digital NV Charts / NV Verlag charts can also be installed on Windows 7/8/10. To use the charts, check that your navigation software is Windows 7/8 compatible. The Chart Navigator (light, Standard, Professional) runs without problems on Windows 7/8/10. Under Windows 10, you should make sure that appropriate drivers are available for your GPS module. NV App Closing apps under iOS and Android

Problem

Sometimes it is necessary to not only have apps on the mobile phone or tablet in the background, but also to close or quit them completely. This may be necessary to free up working memory or to fix technical errors that have arisen because an app has "hung up".

Solution

Apple / iOS:
Use the task manager (swipe into the screen from below or double-click on the home button) to close all apps completely by swiping upwards or to the side.

For iOS, here is a small video that describes the process quite well:  https://youtu.be/q5wGTCz8_Qg

Android:
Use the task manager (task manager button next to the home button) once to close all apps completely by swiping away or with "close all apps".

Chart Navigator During the first installation with a dongle I get an error message.

Was kann ich machen wenn ich eine Fehlermeldung bei der ersten Installation der Karten mit dem nv.dongle bekomme.

Problem

During the, the installation the program creates the corresponding entries for activation on your computer. Problems may occur in individual cases.

Solution

To solve the problem, proceed as follows:

- Remove the dongle from your computer.
- Start the installation from the chart CD. If you now agree to the license agreement, you will reach the window where you will be asked to enter the product ID. Do not enter a Product ID here.
- Right-click in the installation window and select Back. You will be taken back to the license agreement.
- If you now insert the dongle, the installation can be carried out normally. You will not be asked for the Product ID.

If you install additional nv. digital charts on this PC, you do not need to repeat the procedure described above. The installation of further CDs will work without problems.

NV App Chart Navigator Error message "No WebGL"

Solution

It seems that on the device the Web GL is not available with the graphics card (GPU).
Possibly the manufacturer of the graphics card offers a driver update here, which can solve the problem. To update the driver, go to the device manager and look for driver updates in the settings of the graphics card. The manufacturer may also offer a more up-to-date driver for the graphics card on their own website.

If the problem persists, it is possible that no Web GL is available for this graphics card. This can also be tested for the WebGL 2 on the following website: https://webglreport.com/?v=2
It would be nice if the WebGL is recognized as working there, because the WebGL is required for the NV Charts App. If this is not the case, we could see if the Chart Navigator, which is always included in the nautical charts as light version, is an option. We also have it available for download here: http://ftpnvcharts.com/ftp/outgoing/CNL.zip

Note: With the Chart Navigator software  the chart data administration is a little different. In the download section
you can download the charts for the Chart Navigator for the respective region and year of issue and install them with the installation file.

NV App Chart Navigator External GPS devices for the NV Charts App or Chart Navigator(PC)

Solution

If you have a unit without built-in GPS, you need a special external GPS to get a GPS position on your device.
An external GPS antenna can also be connected to a PC or Mac, or the GPS can be received from the NMEA network via Wifi.

On all devices (iOS, Android, Windows and Mac)
you can use NMEA GPS via Wifi (or USB(Mac / Win)) devices from e.g. an AIS router with a GPS antenna connected to display your position in the NV Charts App or also in Chart Navigator Pro (PC only)

Another flexible Device compatible with all iOS, Android and Windows is the Garmin GLO 2 GPS External GPS

iOS:
If you have iPad with Wi-Fi only, you need a special external GPS for iPad to get a GPS position. Check here for devices like Garmin GLO , Bad Elf Lightning or Pro or Pro+ which allow you to use an true GPS position on your iPad.
A flexible device compatible with all iOS, Android and Windows is the Garmin GLO 2 GPS External GPS

Android: Most Android devices already have a built-in GPS receiver.  If external GPS data are used, then mostly via an additional Wlan NMEA GPS solution in connection with AIS data on board. However, there are also compatible external GPS devices.

NV App GPS Status checks on iOS or Android

Solution

When experiencing issues with a GPS reception on your device it might help to have a look at the GPS Status on the device. There is a third party app helping with this.
iOS https://apps.apple.com/app/gps-diagnostic-satellite-test/id1020967894
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2

A screenshot of the screen showing the Signal source and satellite strength will also help us here with further assistance.
Just to be sure: You are not using a iphone shared position over you wifi a the moment? ( When using a shared position from a iphone used on a ipad. As this is not a real gps position and in may be quite a bit delayed and may not reported constantly)

However, lets see what the gps status app indicates about the source and accuracy of the signal  and if there are any irregularities. In the Android Version of the Status App you can also set the source to only use GPS positions in the top left menu of the status app. The NV Charts App would require a position accuracy of better than 50m and a real GPS possition (not wifi, or celluar or the like).

NV App Chart Navigator How do I get my digital NV Charts onto a PC?

Solution

Chart Navigator or other PC navigation programs
The easiest way is to download the chart set from our website under Support--> Download Charts for use in navigation programs like Chart Navigator. This is also possible without an internet connection on board computer.
If you don't have an internet connection, use USB stick to transfer the data from one computer to another. Copy the downloaded files to a USB stick and continue the installation on the on-board computer without Internet. In this case a telephone activation is necessary. We need the activation code displayed during the installation and the product ID of your nautical charts.

You can also use the NV Charts App on your Windows, Mac, Android or iOS device. In this case an internet connection is required during installation. You can download the charts to your device under Charts > My Charts after you have activated the charts - possibly on another device before - to your user name. You can activate new charts to your username with the 16-digit Product ID in the menu Charts > Add Charts.

Chart Navigator How does the nv dongle work and what advantages does the nv.dongle offer?

Solution

The nv.dongle enables you to activate your digital nautical charts independently of the computer. However, the chart data will still be stored on your computer and the key for unlocking is stored on the nv.dongle. This key can then be used on different computers. The charts only need to be installed on the computer while the USB stick is connected and can be displayed any time the dongle is connected.

A dongle is visually similar to a USB stick. It replaces the computer-dependent installation ID required for activation. This means that the activation is not bound to the computer with the dongle, but to the dongle itself.

The nv.dongle only works with digital nautical charts in nv.digital format, such as those available from NV Charts from 2008 on. The nv.dongle does not work with older nautical charts.

The nv.dongle is available from NV. Verlag for 49,00 EUR. Any number of nautical chart CDs can be activated using each dongle.

Chart Navigator In the Chart Navigator I only see coloured stripes.

Solution

There are four possible causes for the problem "colored stripes":

1) The navigation software is not nv.digital capable. The digital sea charts of the NV. Charts digital nautical charts are in the nv.digital format since 2008 (no longer BSB). This means that in order to use the digital nautical charts, you need a corresponding navigation program in the appropriate version. Most common Navigation Softwares are NV Charts compatible

2) The nv.digital charts were registered on the dongle, but the dongle was not inserted when the program was started. The dongle must be plugged in when the navigation software is started. It can then be removed again (Note: this is not possible with all navigation programs).

3) The map files are not (or not only) in the directory in which they were installed during installation. This is the case, for example, if the map files were moved later, the map folder was renamed or the maps were installed in two different folders. Therefore, make sure that the map files are only in the folder you selected during installation. We recommend that you use the default directory (C:/Chartkit/Bsbchart).

4) You do not have the necessary rights on your computer with Windows 7/8 or Vista operating system.
Right-click on the program and select Run as administrator.

NV App iPad Wifi only GPS Share / Tethering / Hotspot

Solution

Unfortunately, the NV Charts app does not get a true GPS position on the iPad due to the tethering / hotspot from iPhone to iPad or Mac.

The position display in the NV Charts app works by "asking" the iPad tracking services for an exact position. If the iPad decides that the received position information is not sufficient, it will not forward the position to the NV Charts App.

If the position is provided by a GPS in iPad, this signal is of high quality and is updated quickly, which means that the NV Charts app can use it to display position information and will usually pass the NV Charts app's filter for a position accuracy of better than 50m (unless it is perhaps below deck in a steel ship. However, if you are connected to a phone, the position information is sent sporadically between all the other tasks on your device (like sharing the internet). The data signal is very poor and will not be sufficient to provide iPad with continuous position information.

It can also happen that the position is displayed for a short moment, but is interrupted again after a few moments. This can give the impression that the connection for a position signal will work. But it won't, and the position will usually fall off again after a short time, especially if you start moving. Tethering / hotspot position data is simply not accurate enough to be used by the NV Charts app (it may happen that your "position" appears briefly, although it will not be usable).

If you only have an iPad with WLAN, you will need a special external GPS for the iPad to get a GPS position. Check for devices such as Garmin GLO , Bad Elf Lightning or Pro or Pro+ that allow this feature and will enable a true GPS position on your iPad.

Solution

If loading of the autorouting data fails, this may be due to an incomplete data set on the device. In this case it can help to download the data again. To do this, go to the NV Charts app under Menu > Data management > Update POIs now.

NV App No GPS in the NV Charts App

Warum hat die NV Charts App keinen GPS empfang? Warum hat die NV Charts App keine Position? Why doesn't the NV Charts app receive GPS? Why does the NV Charts App not have a position?

Solution

In some cases, the NV Charts App does not show the GPS position or the reception is interrupted. This can also cause the track recording to be interrupted.
This can have the following reasons:
1) The location permission is disabled under your system permissions for the NV Charts App. > Set the location permissions for the NV Charts App to "Always allow" under the operating system settings for location permissions
2) The device is below deck or in a building > Check for good GPS reception There are also additional GPS Status Apps and in the NV Charts App in the Dashboard on the right side of the screen above the accuracy in meters or the number of available satellites (Only External GPS devices via NMEA RMC). You would need to have a accuracy of <50m for the NV Charts App to accept the position and not flag it as "No GPS"

Also try taking the device out of all protective covers.

Unfortunately, it seems that on some devices the reception performance of the internal GPS antennas is not always good enough for reliable navigation even in less than optimal reception conditions.

Even spray hoods or heavy cloud cover or rain can lead to limitations here.

In addition, different settings in the software can be another cause here. For this purpose, first the following steps:

Android
Check battery optimisation. ( https://eu.nvcharts.com/support/?faqdetail=41 )

The app "GPS Status & Toolbox" can be installed to see how the GPS signal quality is, which is delivered by the operating system location sensor. Here, the accuracy should be less than 10m and COG and speed should also be displayed when the device moves over a few 100m.

The bars for the reception quality should also be displayed in green.

On the device, again make sure that the location permissions for the NV Charts App is set to "always".

iOS:
Under iOS Settings > Battery > Battery status, the value should be above 85% and the battery should be classified for high performance, otherwise it will be "optimised" here and the GPS can be deactivated.
Then install the app GPS Status ∞ https://apps.apple.com/de/app/gps-status/id1254805862. Here you can see what GPS data the operating system location sensor provides. The accuracy should be better than 10m and COG and speed should also be displayed if the device moves over a few 100m.

Again, make sure that the location permissions for the NV Charts app are set to "always".

If it is not possible to achieve good reception performance with these steps even in poor conditions, we recommend using external GPS receivers. These also have the advantage that the antenna can be positioned on board in a place with good reception and the GPS position can then be used via Bluetooth on the device, e.g. below deck. We have good experience with the Garmin GLO2 (iOS, Android, Windows), which is available in our webshop. https://eu.nvcharts.com/31618/garmin-glo-2-gps-receiver-with-bluetooth-connection/

3) The device does not have a real GPS built-in. In other apps the position may be obtained e.g. via IP address. The NV Charts App however only uses GPS positions. > Look in the device specifications for GPS / GLONASS or GNSS position sensor.
4) With Android, battery optimizations are made by the operating system. Here the GPS is often switched off for apps. Deactivate the optimization for NV Charts App in the operating system settings.
Go to Android Settings > Battery > Battery optimization > Show all apps > deactivate optimization for NV Charts app

NV Shop Hansenautic NV Atlas compact paper chart format

Solution

NV Charts nautical charts are available in a unique, compact Atlas booklet format. With the fold and stapling in the middle of the chart, the paper is reduced to the handier A3 format while still having full size A2 charts when opened on the chart table - the NV. Atlas. In terms of content, it contains the same charts and harbour guides as before and also digital charts are included in NV Atlas Charts. With the NV Atlas, with the and stapling in the middle of the charts, the paper is folded and stapled to the handier
A3 format reduced in size. Charts are in keept in perfect order, making things so much easier to find while keeping your chart table neat and tidy. The NV Atlas allows you to both have a quick reference with a great overview of a paper char
with perfectly ordered charts, while also allowing all navigational tools like rulers and pencils to be used to mark your position and plan your voyage.
Because of the smaller space required on board and also because of the better handleing of the charts, many customers prefer the Atlas format today.

In addition to the NV Atlas format, the Baltic Sea NV Serie 1, 2, 3 and 4 are also available in the conventional A2 NV Plano format. The chart setzs contain the same charts and harbour information, are covering the same areas and also the digital charts are included in both formats. If you prefer to store the charts separately and have a little more space on board, you can also purchase the Din A2 single chart setzs in Plano chart format in these selected regions.

NV App Offline charts are not or partly displayed or only the base chart is visible

Solution

A general distinction is made between online and offline charts. Under charts you can see the switch for the online charts. Deactivate the switch if you want to use offline charts, which you would normaly want to do. The online charts are used as as preview charts for planing a trip to a area and you might not yet have any up to date offline charts for the region.

Under Maps > "Add Charts (Product ID)" you can activate a combination of paper and digital for navigation in the NV Charts app.
Or you can purchase a digital subscription under Charts > Buy offline charts as in app purchase.

If maps have been added, they should be listed under Charts> My Charts.
1) Download the Region maps under Charts> My Charts to be available offline. Once the charts are downloaded, the arrow behind the chart region is blue.
Make sure to have all updates (green arrow), for the basemap and those charts that were already stored on the device, installed as well.
Different data versions between the charts loaded on the device can lead to conflicts in the display.
The charts are now stored on your device.

2) Zoom in on the region to see more detailed charts.

3) Optionally you can activate the raster and vector frames in Settings > Charts Settings. This makes it easier to see where more detailed charts are available and zoom in further.

-----
If the charts are still not displayed, it is possible that too many apps are open on the device at the same time and therefore not enough memory is available. Please try to close all apps with the task manager (swipe in the screen from the bottom of the screen / use the button next to the home button on Android) and also try restarting the device an then also reopen only the NV Charts App. This should make more memory accessible to the NV App.

NV App Portrait display on Android devices (screen zoom setting)

Warum zeigt die NV Charts App auf meinem Android-Gerät das Hochformat nicht korrekt an?

Problem

Some Android devices do not display the NV Charts App in portrait mode as expected, but only in landscape mode – and not in an optimized way. The reason can be the Android system setting for screen zoom.

Solution

In the Android settings under Display → Screen zoom, move the slider to the middle position (between – and +). After this adjustment, the NV Charts App should display as expected on these devices.
Please note: Other apps using landscape mode may no longer display correctly. This can easily be fixed by resetting the slider to its previous position.

NV App Reinstallation or deinstallation of the NV Charts App

Solution

To make sure that all data is saved correctly during the update, it may be necessary to reinstall the app once. You can also follow these instructions to uninstall the app.

Before uninstalling, please make sure that all tracks, routes and markers in the NV Charts app are already synchronized and saved. To do so, also perform a current manual sync (Settings > Privacy > Manual Sync).
Your routes and tracks will be synced back to your device a few minutes after you start the app. To make sure that all tracks and routes are saved on the server, you can open the NV Charts Web App in your browser and see the current synchronized status on the server. app.nvcharts.com

Using Android and iOS, you can remove the app and delete all locally stored data with the deinstallation. To do this, press and hold the app icon until a delete icon appears and delete the app on the device.
Then download the app again from the appropriate store.
You can also find the app directly linked on our website nvcharts.com/app

Using Mac OSX you would first have to delete the NV Charts app under Applications and additionally delete the data folder. To do this, go to "Go to" in the Finder menu and press and hold the "Alt" key.
Now you will also see "Library" listed there. Open the Library and navigate to /Library/Application Support/ and delete the folder nvcharts.
Now reinstall the app by downloading it from the website nvcharts.com/app

Using Windows, uninstall the app either via Control Panel > Programs or via Uninstaller.exe under C:\Program Files\nvcharts\
Make sure that the following folder is also empty or deleted after the uninstallation. C:\ProgramData\nvcharts

Now reinstall the app by downloading it from the website nvcharts.com/app

NV App Restore charts in the NV Charts App after IAP purchase to previous paper editions

Solution

About this issue: To avoid data conflicts between old and new charts
the update with In App Purchase deactivates the any previous paper cards. If a
further update is done later with paper this is no problem because then the new charts are available and will be used navigate in the NV Charts App. However, if you wish to go back to the
outdated charts, it only works manually at the moment. Please contact your support team for further assistance in this case.
However, you can use the online charts use for all planing purposes as well. With the advantage,
that the chart data is then also up-to-date. And of course we are also happy to advise you
if you would like a current print and digital edition for the region.

NV App Rotating Chart when zooming

Solution

Gesture recognition may be frozen here. This can sometimes happen if there is not enough memory. Restart the app once, close it and close other apps that are open at the same time to clear memory.
Please try to close all apps with the task manager (swipe in the screen from the bottom of the screen / use the button next to the home button on Android) and, in case the issue remains, also try restarting the device.
Now reopen only the NV Charts App. This should make more memory accessible to the NV App.
Also make sure that the device meets the hardware requirements and has at least 2 GB, better 3-4GB+ of RAM available.
Please let us know if we can assist any further with this issue.

Sync a nvcloud backup from the Classic App to the new version.

Wie geht der Sync zwischen alter und neuer Version der NV Charts App? Wie geht der Sync zwischen NV Charts Classic und neuer Version der NV Charts App?

Solution

In general, a regular sync between the old version (1.16.570) and the new version (2.x+) is not possible due to a different data format. Data from the new version can therefore not be transferred to the old version.
However, data from the old app can be imported into the new format when updating from the old to the new version. This happens automatically when you update to the new version. If this has not yet been done for a particular backup from the old version, it can be done later as well.

If you still have access to the device with the old app version, you can simply update to the new version here if the hardware specifications for the new version are sufficient. In any case, you should make an nvCloud backup in the old version before updating. (Menu > nvCloud > Save device)

If the device is no longer available, or the new app version is not compatible, you can also perform the update process on another device.

We recommend using a Windows device with the following minimum requirements:
Windows 7 or 10
- DirectX 11 or higher
- 4 GB RAM
- WebGL2 (Test website:https://webglreport.com/?v=2)

You will need you username that you are using in the NV Charts App.

1) If the new app version is already installed, please uninstall it first. Either via Control Panel > Programs or via Uninstaller.exe under C:\Program Files\nvcharts\
Before uninstalling the app, make sure that all data is already backed up within the new app verison. To do this, also perform a recent manual sync (Settings > Privacy > Manual Sync).
The best way to check if all data is also saved here, is to use the NV Charts Web App version of the app, which accesses the last synchronized version of the NV Charts app on the server. app.nvcharts.com

2) Make sure that after uninstalling, the following folder is also empty or deleted. C:\ProgramData\nvcharts

3) So, now we can address the installation of the old version, which you can download here: nvcharts.com/app/upload/nvcharts-570.exe

4) Log in to the app with your username. In the main menu (bottom right) under nvCloud you should see the device you have saved before. Restore the state of the device. (If the device saved is not listed, you might not be logged in with the same account. Please contact us so that we can assist you further)
After restoring the device saved, you should now see on the device the status of the old tracks and routes from the recovered device.

5) Now close the old app and install the following version as administrator ( rightclick> run as administrator):
https://nvcharts.com/app/upload/nvcharts-installer_2_648_17.exe

6) Log in again with your user name. The data has now been imported into the new app version. Under Logbook, for example, you should now see the device's records for the respective year.

(If this is not displayed correctly, close the app and do not perform a sync. Do not restart the new version of the app, but uninstall the app again to avoid an automatic sync after a restart of the app, and contact us so we can assist further here).

7) If everything is displayed correctly, perform a manual sync now. To do this, go to Menu (now top left in the new app version) > Settings > Privacy > Manual Sync. The process may take a few minutes, depending on the amount of data. When the synchronization is complete, the message "Sync successful" will appear in the upper right corner of the screen

8) Check the NV Charts Web App Online version of the app again to see if all data has been synchronized as expected. Please reload the page app.nvcharts.com
Under Logbook you should now also be able to see, for example, the older tracks of the device in the respective year in addition the the tracks you already had in the new version.

9) Now close the old app and install the current version:
https://nvcharts.com/app

Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can assist you further.

Solution

First, try restarting the app. If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the app. If the problem continues, contact our support team.

NV App The NV Charts App on Android is reacting slow, shows a white screen or GPS is not active in the background

Problem

The GPS is not active in the background, or the app is noticeably slow despite sufficient hardware specifications, shows a white screen or freezes. And no other active apps are already closed to make all RAM Memory available.

Solution

It may be possible that the hardware resources are reduced by the operating system to increase battery life. Using Android, the operating system may reduce the CPU power and GPS availability of the device for the NV Charts App to save battery. This can lead to a significant slowdown in the NV Charts app. Try to go to Android Settings > Battery > Battery optimization > Show all apps > to deactivate optimization for NV Charts App.

Or under Android 11 the following:

Settings -> Apps -> NV Charts -> Battery -> Optimise battery consumption (here the setting was "Battery consumption is optimised") -> change "Apps not optimised" to "All" -> move the slider for NV Charts to "off".

NV App Wifi connections Troubleshooting

Solution

If you have already installed a Wlan router on board for your AIS and NMEA data and have connection problems with the NV Charts App, this can have the following reasons:
- It could be that the router can only supply one device with data at a time. You could try to connect only one device to the wifi and disable all other devices to see if this is the cause.

- In the GPS / AIS menu, make sure that the wifi source is set to 1 or 2, depending on which stored router you want to connect to, and press connect at the bottom of the menu to connect to the router.
